The Farmington Soccer Club was started by a small group of passionate soccer lovers who began with a small advertisement in the Farmington Observer looking for players in the cities of Farmington and Farmington Hills who would be interested in playing soccer. The program consisted of in-house teams and travel teams who would compete against neighboring Livonia, Plymouth, Northville, Novi, and South Lyon. Games were played at local elementary schools.
In 1976, the club consisted of enough teams that the club became incorporated in the State of Michigan as a domestic non-profit founded for the educational purpose of teaching the game of soccer. That year the club also became charter members of the Western Suburban Soccer League (WSSL) that has since grown to become the largest league in the state consisting of over 50 member clubs. The club's primary team name was the Flyers and its team colors were green and white.
During the 1980's, the club began playing their games largely at the new SoccerSoccer grounds at the corner of 12 Mile Road and Drake Road. Through a failed attempt by the Little Ceasar's Corporation to obtain approval for an interchange along I-696 at Drake Road, the City of Farmington Hills was able to lease the land for recreational purposes. Four full sized fields were established for home games and the club enjoyed continued growth along with the league and soccer in the United States in general.
The newly formed Detroit Express, who played in the North American Soccer League (NASL) at the Pontiac Silverdome, also helped contribute to the growth of soccer in the area. A Bonanza League (named after the chain of area steak restaurants in the area) was soon formed to create a higher level of play for the youth in our area, eventually this concept became the new Michigan State Premier Soccer League (MSPSL).
The turn of the millenium saw the creation of a new sporting venue within the City of Farmington Hills including state-of-the-art soccer fields, baseball/softball fields, and a hockey arena. Founders Sports Park consists of three 11v11 fields, two 9v9 fields, two 7v7 fields, and fields for small sided youth games. The Farmington Soccer Club continues to call these grounds their home fields to this day. Its teams are named the Fury and Fusion sporting red/black and white/black as its colors.
On May 6th, 2026 the Farmington Soccer Club will celebrate its 50th year of organized soccer. We welcome all who enjoy the beautiful game to join in continuing the growth of soccer in our community for another forty years.
